Kevyn Aucoin Medium Sculpting Powder is a product that I've had sat in my collection since the end of Summer last year and suprisingly for a contour powder, has sat pretty much unused.
My first impressions of the product itself, weren't all positive as I immediately felt a little ripped off by the fact that the pan seems a considerably lot smaller than the previous packaging. It's quite tiny and far from the size I had thought it would be when I ordered it, especially when you take into consideration the price tag that accompanies it.
Size aside, Kevyn Aucoins Medium Sculpting Power is a matte cool Brown with a Grey tone that works excellently at sculpting in cheekbones and holds a seriously intense pigmentation. I'm sure you're wondering why it's sat unused when I'm raving about how well it works and how pigmented it is, but truth be told, it's just too much work in my opinion. Compared to other sculpting products in my collection, this needs that little bit too much attention on application, especially at times where I want to brush on some cheekbones and be out of the door.
The pigmentation is insane and every single contour brush that I have tried to use, picks up far too much product with the slightest touch to pan and on more occasions that not, I've been left with more of a punched in the face look as opposed to sculpted. The product does blend out really well, which I guess makes for another positive factor, but I'd personally rather not have to spend so much time blending to correct my bruised look, which I don't find I have to with the likes of Tom Fords Shade & Illuminate, Harmony, Illamasquas Sculpting Kit or Justify (to name a few).
If you're looking for an excellent contour powder and don't mind spending a few extra pennies, then Kevyn Aucoins Sculpting Powder may well be for you, but for now, I'm happy with my alternatives for a quick and easy application with in my opinion, just as good results.
Available for £33 for 3.10g of product, Kevin Aucoins Medium Sculpting Power is available to buy in Cult Beauty and Space NK.
I'd love to know your opinions on this heavily raved about product.

This product is so highly raved, it's nice to read a different opinion on it, impulse buyers like myself would just buy it because of it's strong applause, now after reading this ill have to carefully consider it! Especially considering the price tag of such a small product!! Painful!
ReplyDeleteWhy oh why do you keep sharing such beautiful products?!

This seems to be a cult favorite that I may or may not have on my cult beauty cart…
ReplyDeleteI do wish they kept the original size OR lowered the price!
The Beauty Break
I've been looking at this for ages but for the price I think I'd rather go for Illamasqua hollow or the sculpting duo.

The packaging and shade is stunning, but if I have to put in a lot of work into a contour, then why spend so much money on it? Thanks for the honest review and what lip color are you wearing in that photo? You look great :)

It looks amazing, and a great review! When I apply bronzer or contouring products, it always ends up looking very muddy on me :(
